Romero Law, APC just left a voicemail saying they're filing a lawsuit tomorrow - what do I do (245 อ่าน)

I came home today to a voicemail from Romero Law, APC stating that they are preparing to file a lawsuit against me first thing tomorrow morning unless I call them back immediately to make a payment arrangement. They mentioned a debt from a credit card I had years ago, but I honestly thought this was already resolved or past the time limit for collection.
The thing that really got me is they said they already have my employer information and will be seeking wage garnishment if they get a judgment. That completely freaked me out. I have never been sued before and I dont know how any of this works. Is it normal for them to give such a short warning like this? Can they really file that fast?
I havent received any official court papers in the mail yet, just this phone call. Part of me wants to just pay them something to make it go away, but another part of me feels like this might be a pressure tactic and I shouldnt rush into paying without seeing proof first. Has anyone been through this with Romero Law? Do they actually follow through with lawsuits or is this just how they operate to scare people into paying? I really need to know if I should be lawyering up right now or if I can handle this myself. Any advice on what my first step should be would be amazing.
